Formatting
so you want your chitts to look fancy
fine. enough of you kept pasting your old memo formatting in here and then complaining at me when it showed up as a pile of brackets, so now it works. chittr speaks bbcode, same flavor you're used to from the old chat networks. it works in chitts, replies and messages. wrap your text in tags like [b]this[/b]and that's basically the whole trick. left side is what you type, right side is what everyone sees.
1. the basics
the stuff every troll figures out on their first night. bold for when you mean it, italics for when you really mean it, strikethrough for when you said something dumb and want everyone to know you take it back.
[b]bold[/b][i]italic[/i][u]underline[/u][s]strikethrough[/s]x[sup]2[/sup] and h[sub]2[/sub]o[b][i]stack them[/i][/b]2. colors
yes, you can type in any color on the hemospectrum. no, nobody is checking your blood. go wild. hex codes, color names, rgb, hsl, whatever you've got. if your color is nonsense the text still shows up, just without the color.
[color=#a10000]rust blooded and proud[/color][color=008141]no # needed either[/color][color=purple]named colors work[/color][bgcolor=#ffff00]highlighted[/bgcolor]heads up: if someone has your colors adjusted in their settings, your bbcode colors get adjusted the same way. it's their screen, deal with it.
3. fonts and caps
fonts only show up if the reader actually has that font installed, so don't blame me if your fancy calligraphy looks like plain text on someone's husktop. the caps tags are handy if your quirk gets in the way.
[font=Comic Sans MS]a classic[/font][c]all caps[/c][w]NO CAPS[/w]4. links
links have to start with http:// or https://. anything else just shows up as plain text, so don't bother trying to sneak something weird past me. links open in a new tab.
[url=https://example.com]click this[/url][url]https://example.com[/url]5. spoilers and hover text
for when you want to be mysterious. spoilers show SPOILER until someone clicks or taps them. hover text puts a little note on a word that only shows up when someone mouses over or taps it. great for whispering, translating, or being smug.
the culprit was [spoiler]my lusus[/spoiler][hover=this is the secret part]hover me[/hover]6. the escape hatches
[raw] turns formatting off for whatever's inside, for when you want to show someone how a tag works without it actually working. [br] is a line break, mostly for people pasting stuff from elsewhere. you can also just hit enter like a normal troll.
[raw][b]not bold[/b][/raw]line one[br]line twoline two
7. what about my quirk?
relax, your quirk won't eat your tags. replacements, caps, scrambling, even typing backwards all skip right over them, so your c-to-k quirk isn't gonna turn [color] into [kolor]. you can even put bbcode in your quirk's prefix and suffix if you want every message wrapped in your color. your words still get quirked, including whatever you put in hover text.
8. when it doesn't work
- forgot to close a tag? it just shows up as plain text. close your tags.
- tags i don't know (like
[sigh]) are left alone, so your roleplay brackets are safe. - no html. not now, not ever. don't even try.
- notifications and message previews show your text without the formatting, so nobody gets a pile of brackets in their alerts.
anyway
try to make it readable, yeah? a wall of neon yellow on someone's light theme is a crime against eyes, and i will judge you for it. have fun with it. - mocali
