The duty of a cloister is to attend and keep watch of our mother grub and her young.. I couldn't abandon my duties just for a party... I personally don't even know this Eridan person. I'm sure he's a fine fella but I can't go to a stranger's celebration it'd feel wrong of me to do so when I have a job.
