... It's all for the sake of control. The more they can censor, the more they can force the helms into "politeness", the more they can pretend they're in control, and the more they can forget that without the helms, their ships wouldn't even fucking run.
THEY ARE HOOKED UP TO A MACHINE THAT FORFEITS ALL OF THEIR ANATOMY TO THE EMPIRE. THE EMPIRE CAN MAKE THEM DO WHATEVER THEY WANT. THE MACHINERY THEY'RE HOOKED UP TO EATS THEM FROM THE INSIDE OUT, SO IT'S NOT LIKE THEY LAST LONG ANY WAYS.
That was the compromise I found myself in with the people I helped at the end. If I wasn't piloting their ship they'd be stranded especially with whatever contraption they snatched me with to begin with being destroyed. I was able to leverage a lot in my situation because I was all they had left. Maybe these crews need to be taught how valuable their helms fucking are.
Mm. Agreed, though, of course... It is not particularly feasible without injuring or killing the helm. And I do not wish for anyone to do that to them. That is even worse.
