Eh, closest thing we have for comparison's sake is your flushed quadrant. We basically fall in someone we love and admire and depending on your religion (because truthfully the marriage part is about the ceremony of it all) there are specific ceremonies and things that need to be done for it. It basically ties you and that person together in the eyes of the law and your god(s). It's basically a bond for life, and this is how you broadcast that to the other people in your sphere.
