This is a story about a gift. Because that is what they were told they were, by their lusus (aww). A precious little thing she was lucky to stumble across. She told them they were a jade, yet raised them away from the cloister. The lusus claimed this was because her gift was so precious to her, she couldn't bear to see them go. And so the little gift was kept safe and secure from the world. Hidden in the north in a hive of ice and snow, the watchful eye of their lusus over them. But oh, poor little thing that they were. They were ever so lonely. But they had one thing to look forward to each sweep. Twelfth perigrees eve. This was the night their lusus would take them with her to meet her herd. It was a night of celebration and joy, where they got to dance and play (yay!). They could leave the hive. They even met other wards! They adored it, though they didn't understand why it was only one night a year. Their lusus said it was because they were special. That they couldn't stay with her herd because of that. And so the little gift carried on their lonely life. Waiting for twelfth perigrees eve every sweep. They loved their lusus- they trusted her. Surely, she knew best (of course!). They only doubted this once. At one of the celebrations, they met another ward (how darling!). A fast friendship that quickly turned to sneaking off from the group. Their new friend told them they were trapped, you see. That their lusus was crazy. She said they should run away with her. The gift paused, for they loved her lusus. But their friend... Oh, dear reader, it was love at first sight for our gift. They adored her, the way she laughed, the way she ran, the way she talked to them like they could be trusted. They knew in their pusher, they'd do anything for her. They agreed, and she was so happy that the gift knew they'd done the right thing. They didn't even see the knife before it plunged into their chest. She was crying, saying she'd seen something wrong with them, and when they looked down, they saw it too. Jade that was just barely the wrong colour. A cusp, poor thing. No wonder their friend was weeping. They remembered that as the life faded from their body, the snow falling softly. ......... Poor thing. They could have brought so much joy to the world. Your warmth will be remembered. @kringleAnarchist Here's the twelfth perigee's eve story that you asked for. ✎﹏﹏﹏﹏ 𓆩Tale told𓆪
