Pianist and composer Billy Strayhorn who played with Duke Ellington his whole career was a wonderfully talented singer and jazz musician as well as a gay man, who had to hide his sexuality for a good portion of his life. Ellington protected Strayhorn from those who suspected and wanted to exclude or even persecute him by refusing to play without Strayhorn. A friendship to admire!
