When it comes to employment, never give 100%. On a day when your 100% adds up to lower than your average (For example, if you are ill, or grieving, or just feeling a bit odd), your workplace will think you're slacking off and punish you. Work at 40%, or however little you can get away with while still following the job description. That way, on a day when your 100% is only half of your average, your work output doesn't change, and they will view you as very reliable.
