#sylinkfilmreviews #6 The W★iling (2016) This one's ★ Kore★n film directed ★nd by N★ Hong-jin with ★ runtime of two hours ★nd thirty six minutes. I h★ve ★ lot of conflicting feelings on this one, ★nd so the score m★y rise or f★ll over time but here ★re my thoughts right now. This will cont★in spoilers ★nd over ★ll I think the film is interesting enough to be worth your time reg★rdless of my mixed feelings. So, I'm going to st★rt with wh★t I liked ★nd work my w★y from there. The p★cing ★nd the tension th★t ★llows is f★nt★stic, it begins very slow ★nd st★rts to speed up ★s the mist★kes of Jong-goo begin to pile up. Spe★king of him, he's ★ very well ★ctu★lized ch★r★cter, feeling very re★listic in how messy he is. ★t sever★l points in the movie we ★re shown th★t he's ★ sl★ve to his vices (★nd this sort★ pl★ys into one of my issues but we'll get to th★t l★ter). ★s mentioned previously the tension it builds throughout its runtime is delect★ble. Every single ★ctor in this one w★s gre★t, I could not point to ★ single we★k link in the c★st. There's for sure ★ missed on ★ first w★tch through, p★rticul★rly with the christi★n ★nd folk story side of things. If Kore★n folk horror is something you're interested in this is ★g★in worth checking out. I ★m going to re-iter★te my spoiler w★rning bec★use my issues mostly stem from the ending. So, the ending. In the ending it is reve★led th★t the old J★p★nese m★n th★t the c★st h★d suspected from the beginning w★s indeed ★ devil c★using ★ll of this. Which, I thought w★s ★ poor choice. It felt like rew★rding the m★in c★st for f★lling for one of their vices (★nger ★t ★n outsider) when everything else pushed the opposite notion. Now here's where the conflict begins, I'm not entirely sure the old J★p★nese m★n w★s ★lw★ys ★ demon, ★t one point he seemingly dies then the next we see of him is him ★dmitting he's ★ devil. I ★m fully willing to ★dmit I might be wrong on this one though, ★nd would love to he★r from others who h★ve ★lso seen the film. Over ★ll I'd give it ★ 3.5/5 for now.
