Hoo boy. Okay. There's a lot to it, lot of human race politics too, so uh, content warning I suppose if you wanna back out? #cw-racism #cw-dubioushistory #cw-impliednoncon According to legend, a free mixed-race woman named Emily West was working in Texas during the Texas Revolution against Mexico, and she was kidnapped by the Mexican cavalry and forced to travel with them, with all the baggage that likely entails. At some point, the forces of the Mexican army under General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna were caught off guard by General Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto, and the Texans were victorious in supposedly 18 minutes... because West was distracting the Mexican general. Carnally. Now that's likely not the case, as the legend, and then the song that was written about it, was supposed to show that the Mexican efforts to subdue the rebellion were shattered because of race mixing, which as any sane person knows, is fucking stupid. But there's a lot stupid shit back in my home state. In any case, the flower's got a sort of secret third region specific meaning. Hopefully all of that wasn't too unpleasant to read. West, btw, did manage to leave the state again after the revolution was over, which is good. Due to her kidnapping, she'd lost the passport that declared her a free woman, but she was vouched for by some prominent figures in the burgeoning new government there, and either returned to her home state of Connecticut or to New York after her ordeal.

Yeah, I see a lot on here about humans bein' softer or in some way incapable of the cruelty that trolls see as commonplace, but that is just... demonstrably false, y'know? I'm lucky that I grew up being educated about the truth of these things rather than just swallowing the version of history that we get as kids in the lone star state, lol.
