I have something of an inkling, having 8een around as long as I have. I've met altern8s with noticea8le pigmentation to their skins 8etween 8lood colors, massive height differences, the aforementioned 8lood-8ased 8ody temperatures, trolls with tails 8oth insectile and mammalian, some with *far* more pronounced insectile traits in general, actually... I've even seen a few things that've surprised me in my time here!
our reproduction cycle leads to a lot of chances for mutation and variance is the root cause im pretty sure! just the tiniest difference in what goes into the pailing slurry and in what order can drastically change a timeline and what secondary traits some trolls can pick up and with any mutations that dont violate the established hemospectrum hierarchy often being considered benign or even helpful its very easy to see timelines where trolls more widely develop things like mandibles or tails at least thats my hypothesis
Hmm... Yes, I think I agree with that. A very informed hypothesis! It's interesting to think that just a few tweaks of 8iological variance going 8ack thousands of sweeps (or longer) can have a massive consequence for the species at large.
