For my next recommendat|on, we'll rew|nd qu|te a b|t to take a look at [Trees and Flowers - Extended Mix by Strawberry Switchblade]. Yes, that one version, spec|f|cally. Wh|le the s|ngle vers|on of [Trees and Flowers by Strawberry Switchblade] |s arguably the|r most popular song, |t was a breakthrough unaffected by the|r subsequent creat|ve d|rect|on sh|ft. |t's a tad more raw, and lands |tself very squarely |nto a Sm|ths-esque post-punk jam, as per the style that the art|st|c duo was go|ng through. But that success caused commerc|al |nterference, and Strawberry Sw|tchblade found themselves mak|ng the goth|c equ|valent at the t|me of what would now be ak|n to dreampop. |t may have been a tumultuous change that resulted |n the breakup of the pa|r |mmed|ately afterwards, but |t d|d y|eld |mpress|ve results. The ethereal feel of many tracks |n th|s album |s |ncred|bly pleasant and |mmers|ve, but, |n my op|n|on, |t peaks on th|s song |n part|cular. The long |nstrumental overture, the |nt|mate sound of the w|nd |nstruments, the w|stful lyr|cs dep|ct|ng an al|en sort of melancholy through the|r wonderfully melod|c del|very: all of these factors comb|ne |nto a sensat|on that touches the soul. Even from a purely aud|t|ve exper|ence, |t's a pleasant and catchy tune, n|ce to s|ng, tap, hum and bob along to. |f you l|ke the sound of th|s song, be sure to check out the rest of the album. The ent|re record |s qu|te a n|ce trip, and excel as both act|ve l|sten|ng exper|ences and casual tracks to enjoy |n pass|ng or have stuck |n one's head. Go see about |t |f you're cur|ous; |f you're not, that's also [Alright by Supergrass].
F|gurat|vely bapt|s|ng my prof|le w|th perhaps the only cons|stent use |t may see: a mus|c recommendat|on. Wh|le | bel|eve the mean|ng of f|rst t|mes |s greatly exaggerated by the general populat|on, th|s one should be a proper representat|on of my tastes nevertheless, eclect|c though they are. Thus, | w|ll start th|ngs w|th an |nfall|ble yet obscure self-found p|ck: Today's song |s [L|ght Forever by Apr|l 1830]. The second track |n the album [The Adventures of Space P|g] rema|ns about as lyr|cally abstract as the rest of the record, but show|ng a much more convent|onal structure than a large port|on of the reperto|re. Yet, although convent|onal, the sound of th|s song |s unden|ably |ts own, w|th an unpred|ctable backup gu|tar, frant|c drumwork throughout, a pass|onate yet soft vocal performance that m|xes a smooth tone w|th powerful emot|on, and |nstrumental cho|ces that g|ve the song a sense of constant evolut|on and an aura larger than |tself for the f|nal chorus and the bu|ldup to |t. Thoroughly enjoyable and greatly approachable, yet not los|ng an ounce of personal|ty. The only reason th|s song does not dwarf the rest of the album w|th |ts power |s because of how sound the other tracks are as well. But, |f you're go|ng to l|sten to a s|ngle song by th|s much-underapprec|ated band to determ|ne your |nterest, you'd be pressed to f|nd a better exponent than [L|ght Forever by Apr|l 1830].
