I'm under the impression it's a power of belief thing. Most of us do because we still believe that having a body means we have to take care of it like we always have in the past, and as such our god body responds in kind. That said, I have met others who have forgone what most consider "basic necessities" such as breathing, eating, and sleeping, and have been fine. So yes, if you believe you can lose weight as a god, then you can.
