As though she were about to stand up a moment later and walk away lax and unscathed. She d1d not. The sound of scuttl1ng and shuffl1ng echoed 1n the aud1o before the source crawled 1nto v1ew. Well, more accurately, sources. A wave of g1ant, blue terrestr1al 1sopods crawled and rolled across the scarab drone’s v1ew, only stopp1ng and settl1ng after surround1ng Hayaah. The1r antennae waved up 1n the a1r, then just over the edges of the downed troll’s s1lhouette. Rous1ng recogn1t1on exchanged between the mass of consorts. Some had the1r antennae wav1ng up 1n the a1r aga1n, th1s t1me seem1ngly more frant1c, wh1le others scuttled around the newly occup1ed area 1n a qu1ck lap before return1ng to the1r prev1ous pos1t1ons. Onlookers could swear that a loud conversat1on was held 1n complete s1lence between the blue creatures unt1l a hushed st1llness settled. A moment lapsed before one set of antennae tw1tched, sett1ng off the rest of the 1sopods’ movements 1n un1son. They began to more t1ghtly surround Hayaah, the1r legs d1gg1ng at the ground around and under Hayaah. The ones closest pushed the d1rt out and away, w1th the second row clear1ng the debr1s from beh1nd as the 1nner c1rcle dug 1nto the sand and d1rt, slowly mak1ng the1r way under the goldblood wh1le support1ng her we1ght on the1r sh1elded backs, creat1ng an 1nterlocked phalanx format1on. Once aga1n, the consorts reacted and moved together as a s1ngle un1t, but th1s t1me w1th Hayaah on the1r backs. Stragglers flanked the 1nnermost ones support1ng Hayaah from all s1des as the ent1re group scuttled away from the bottom of the steep rock face. The scarab moved w1th them, keep1ng the group 1n the center of 1ts v1ew. The 1sopods moved qu1ckly across the harsh landscape w1th the1r cargo comfortably balanced on the1r shells. Fly1ng h1gher, the scarab caught 1n 1ts s1ght the outer edges of a moderately s1zed and progressed settlement 1n the d1stance. Hayaah, 1t had seemed, had helped them develop the1r settlement 1nto someth1ng more than a sh1eld1ng rock format1on, and 1n hav1ng done so, the 1sopods felt the 1mperat1ve to try to take care of her 1n the way she took care of them. They w1nded through a stretch of fledgl1ng bu1ld1ngs w1th some of the stragglers peel1ng away from the group, only to return w1th suppl1es on the1r backs or scampered upr1ght, haul1ng conta1ners of water and other suppl1es held t1ghtly to the1r torsos by the1r many legs. The consorts paused 1n front of a fam1l1ar structure; a scuttlebuggy garage. The door loudly scraped as the metal rolled 1n on 1tself, reveal1ng the 1ns1de to the consorts and the scarab. 1t was a spac1ous, organ1zed, and aptly furn1shed mechan1c garage w1th one notable d1fference of a cot and the smallest k1tchenette ever 1n the back far corner.
