finished a run 0f lords 0f the fallen. ending was pretty shit ngl but not a surprise either. just a 'w0w they really went for that 0nly huh' sort 0f moment. n0 greater context learned, n0 twist. you pretty much get what they said y0u'd get in the form 0f a less than ten second cutscene and five lines 0f text.
still not half as funny as seeing s0me people desperately trying tw0 say the guy who exclusively makes his structures out 0f ripped out 0rgans and sliced off limbs was actually t0tally the go0d guy. literally paving the streets in the charred corpses 0f nonc0mbatants was vital to their fighting back against injustice. the 0rnriest clown 0n a go0d alternian night doesn't g0 through as much bl0od f0r paint as the po0r little adyrites. oh and he needs a child sacrifice at the end tw0. it's for the greater g0od lul. abs0lute fo0ls. a go0d laugh though. #solgaming
the pl0t has setup for g0od ideas but d0esn't particularly see them through 0r explore them. maybe the sequel out s0on will finally st0p trying to emulate s0uls' story style and actually tell 0ne of their 0wn. but as for a review 0n other merits:
the game is fun. but getting it tw0 run even on hardware like mine was a massive ch0re and it never was truly smo0th. they to0k the UE5 pill and choked 0n it like every other idi0t. if you can wrap it in en0ugh duct tape to h0ld together th0ugh they did figure out h0w to have enjoyable s0ulslike mechanics though, n0 easy feat. it's clear they still have some wr0ng ideas about what pe0ple like from s0uls games (enemy placement is s0 consistently petty that it st0ps being a surprise) but they're learning in massive leaps c0mpared two that fucking seepage 0f an original run. levels are vast and intertwining, which is g0od and bad. locati0ns are co0l visually but sometimes needlessly c0mplex, especially with the secondary umbral map laid 0ut overt0p everything. combat feels g0od, y0u have a nice set of 0ptions f0r how y0u want two run it and while they sh0uld have varied up what archetypes of weap0ns you get (y0u tend two get all the same shit that scales in the same way fr0m the same spot, and it will be ineffective in that sp0t) the total am0unt is varied and interesting, and you can dual wield whatever y0u want albeit most things just result in a generic m0veset.
TLDR: 7/10 if y0u can get it to run, but y0u probably w0n't so i'm d0cking a full point just 0n sheer unoptimizati0n - 6/10. if y0u really do like s0ulslikes you w0n't go wr0ng with it, if you win the UE5 optimizati0n lottery.
