Lin-guis-tic fact of the day: In Ja-pan-ese, the big-ger cha-rac-ters, called kan-ji, are ac-tu-al-ly made up of smal-ler ones, "ra-di-cals". Ra-di-cals are words, too, but sim-pler ones, i.e. 木 (ki ; tree) or 女 (on-na ; wo-man), that have re-la-tion to the big-ger ones, i.e. 森 (mo-ri ; fo-rest) or 妻 (tsu-ma ; wife).
