Fun Spiderfact! The female wolf spider takes great care in protecting her offspring. After laying several dozen eggs the mother wolf spider wraps them in silk, creating an egg sac. She then attaches the egg sac to her spinnerets and carries it with her wherever she goes. If she is separated from her egg sac she will furiously search for it, and is increasingly aggressive until the sac is found. After her eggs hatch she continues to care for her spiderlings, carrying them on her back until they are old enough to fend for themselves. Fuuuuun spider fact! Spiders have blue blood Unlike us, spiders have blue blood or more accurately, Hemolymph . In humans, oxygen is bound to a molecule that contains iron, this gives our blood that red color. However, in spiders, the molecule that oxygen is bound to contains copper, which gives their blood the blue color. And that is your #spiderfactoftheday

Fun Spider Fact! Spiders love to do the YMCA You probably think I'm being ridiculous right now, but it’s true! Peacock spiders, Maratus volans, perform a dance as part of their mating ritual, and it kind of looks like the YMCA. To add to this, the bright colors found on their abdomen make this a great spectacle to watch. Unfortunately, if the male spider’s rendition of the YMCA doesn’t impress the female, she will attempt to attack, kill, and even eat him... so I guess don't be male in the spider world haha And that's your #spiderfactoftheday !

Fun spider fact! Unfortunately, this isn’t good news for masc presenting individuals! In some cases, depending on the species, the female spider will eat the male spider before, during, or after copulation! This happens more frequently in certain species, like the black widow and the redback spider, where the male willingly sacrifices himself to provide nourishment for the female and increase the chances of his offspring’s survival. In some cases, males even perform specific behaviors, like somersaulting into the female’s fangs, as part of the mating process. Did you know that this behavior of sexua...Read more

Interesting Spider Fact and I guess a less fun ant fact! Spiders could be ants in disguise! There are over 100 species of spiders that mimic ants by having evolved similar appearances and even similar pheromones. Most do it to evade predators, but a few do it to help them prey on ants. And that's your #spiderfactoftheday

There are some ingenious ways spiders use to capture prey! For instance, the ogre-faced spider weaves a net between its front legs and then dangles above places where prey are likely to pass through. By using its web like a net, it scoops up prey. Bolas spiders use a long line of silk ended with a spot of sticky glue, swinging it at nearby moths to catch them, much like a fishing line. That's your #spiderfactoftheday !
