i figure ideally it would be paced similar to how the actual pogo hammer was back then, with the movement increasing rapidly in speed. the basic implementation looks to be there though!

heheheh. glad i'm not the only one who thinks this is garbage right now. ok, well, thanks for the feedback, i am going to go back to working on it now. other than the actual speed of the animation/player movement, what else do you think i can fix?? i really don't like how the launch mechanic works for this but i also don't exactly know how to fix it.

not garbage, just a work in progress! i think a good place to look would be amy rose in sonic advance in particular for a possible hammer launching mechanic- basically, a specific button input needs to be pressed to launch the player. otherwise, the movement speed for the hammer swinging should just basically be a playable version of the clip i sent, i think, where massing the button continuously gradually increases the speed of the attack bouncing back and forth, not just the animation itself.

yes!!! now you're really getting somewhere! i can FEEL this being a super satisfying mechanic just by looking at it, especially if you can get up to the kind of bounce speeds shown in the clip i shared earlier too with enough mashing. maybe the longer you've 'charged' the move (the faster you're bouncing back and forth) the higher the launch into the air is?

oh man, definitely! i was going to experiment with it anyways, by that i mean playing around with the values. i don't want to cap it anymore at just 5 combos (that's how i internally named the "charging" by bouncing back and fourth) and instead i want to let the player launch themselves as high as they want, maybe? i am still not too sure yet.
