Humans in a lot of regards are softer physically and emotionally to trolls, but don't let that make you think humans aren't capable of vile shit. Humanity has had a long and storied history of war, conflict, and awful, awful ideologies and choices through history. We've got to a more stable point in the modern era, but it's far from perfect. Humans do have the potential to be as violent.
War and politics. And changing labels on things. They love to do that as a whole. If we don't call it a monarchy anymore it'll go better right? What if we call the king a president? I'm not the one to talk about a lot of the problems Earths' face, since I'm in a privileged demographic, but while some massive efforts have been made to destroy flawed archaic systems, it really is just a rebranding and reshuffling of power.
