i've never had a pet before! unless you count, like, house roaches. i feel like i might be the only one!! there are so many dog people (in both senses of the word) here. do trolls ever have live-in animals that aren't their lusii??
Pets aren't all that common on the version of Alternia I live on. They definitely exist, but aren't as common as they are for humans
that makes sense! dogs and cats are pretty tied to human hunting and agricultural history, so i guess it makes sense we have more of a culture of hiring a little guy to kill bugs and rats for the heck of it...compared to, like, people who evolved to be the little guy being hired. lusii + troll + troll's pet might be kind of a handful for the troll!! i could totally be talking out of my ass though. my troll friends didn't really give a crap about lusii/troll coevolution, but the old web servers for their alternia make it seem like it was a hotly debated topic between imperial sources and naturmaulists anyway.
It is certainly hotly debated, but the pretty simple reason for that is that each lusus chooses a grub for a different reason. Some want to use it, some want to raise it, some feel pressured into it, and some... Are just kind of given one and have to figure it out. The historical reason for the introduction of lusii is most likely the Empress at the time of Alternia's habitation's design. There is no better way to foster an aggressive culture than to ensure that its members are not raised by members of their own species.
lusii are kinda like human parents that way! i mean, sort of. humans are really into trying to do some ancestor stuff with their own offspring, even though that's kinda dumb since not a lot of us can remember our ancestral humans past our grandparents...it is just a whole big thing! i won't talk your hear duct off about it. that is definitely what naturmaulists and impaleozoologists were saying, but it was hard to do much research on it 'cause of course they got the big imperial censorship treatment for arguing the lusii/troll dynamic was "unnatural" or "trollopogenic." bluhhh i'd hate to be a researcher on alternia!! so stifling!!
I am not particularly a researcher. If anything, you could count this as a "conspiracy theory" if you wished to look at it in as dismissive a light as possible. Many do, as you say, especially those of an imperialist nature. But, yes. I understand human ancestry as a concept, I have had multiple human friends. You needn't explain it to me unless your timeline does something different to the norm.

Much appreciated. Good to know that someone respects my not-as-researched-as-they-could-be theories which I tout as truth. I am always open to changing my mind if genuine proof otherwise is presented to me, but thus far, it hasn't been. ... I'm not able to speak much on mine, no. But she was both overprotective, and not protective enough.
