Spe⁻cial re⁻lativity is base⁻d on two postulate⁻s which are⁻ contradictory in classical me⁻chanics: that 1) the⁻ laws of physics are⁻ the⁻ same⁻ for all obse⁻rve⁻rs in any ine⁻rtial frame⁻ of re⁻fe⁻re⁻nce⁻ re⁻lative⁻ to one⁻ anothe⁻r, and that 2) the⁻ spe⁻e⁻d of light in vacuo is the⁻ same⁻ for all obse⁻rve⁻rs, re⁻gardle⁻ss of the⁻ir re⁻lative⁻ motion or of the⁻ motion of the⁻ light source⁻.
