Honestly, it's mostly an excuse for them to get their families and loved ones together. They end the night off with colored lights, obviously it's different for the different cultures. Flames, bulbs, floating lanterns, the like. Are you familiar with the color runs for Holi? There are similar events. I think I like the ones that include gardening or farming. Clipping exchanges are big at those.
