⦓ I would be the worst in Orpheus' situation... All I ever do is look, after all. And looking back, even more so. I wish I could say that my trust would outweigh my fear and love but it wouldn't! It wouldn't... ⦔

⦓ He's an individual from a myth! An old story told a long time ago by people back then. In the story, his lover had died, so he went to the afterlife ﴾where the souls of the dead go in stories like this﴿, and begged for the keeper of the afterlife to let him have his wife back. He was very convincing, so the keeper set a challenge. He said "You may have her back, but she will walk behind you, and she will only be returned if you make it all the way back to the normal world without looking back at her even once." And he of course agrees! But right near the end, he looks back, and she never gets brought back to life because of it... It is unclear whether he looked back because he began to think that the keeper of the afterlife was lying to him, or because he missed her so badly he couldn't help but want to see her face... ⦔

⦓ Well, nobody really knows if people do go somewhere when they're culled! Stories are works of fiction, imagination. They aren't always about real things! I'm glad that I could answer the question, sorry for not responding to this sooner after the fact, I was so tired yesterday I unexpectedly fell asleep... ⦔ ⦓ I do believe that in most versions of the story, she could not speak, yes. Though perhaps you're right that this could have been resolved by tying something to her! But he may have had to look at her to tie something, and he would have lost then... I believe that this story is designed to tell people that "no matter how much you love someone, if they die, they're gone. Even Orpheus, who loved her so much he would climb into another world to save her, failed". Now, don't quote me on that... But many stories are designed to teach lessons through made-up situations. If I had to guess, I think that that is the lesson this one wants to teach... That love cannot beat death. Still, I think it is good that he tried, even if he failed... ⦔
