Letting the wave of emotions out is far better than keeping it held back until the proverbial dam breaks. But, if you wish to solve this problem, look at it from ALL sides instead of in one direction. To start, is your problem an object...or a person?
Can you measure how much of a problem they are? If they are simply annoying, subtly it is. Find a weak spot and turn it against them. If they are repugnant, however, and seek to take you somewhere uncomfortable, evasion is usually best. If there is a bathroom with windows, escape through there, or have the ally you spoke of earlier stay on contact if you need an alternate exit.
