okay, can you explain how your prison system operates? :)
How long do you have? What is your question? I'm afraid the legal system is quite complex, and it would be extremely beneficial to narrow your question. If you are referring to how the sentences are carried out, and how Meenah's was judged; when operating within a "planet-wide crime," a crime that is often not an intergalatic threat, but is isolated to a single planet (in this case, Earth-C), the harshest punishment possible is approximately 100 years, with every death adding an additional year. Thankfully, no one was killed in the coup—at least, that myself and the judge are aware of at this time. The next stage in classification is a "universal crime," wherein multiple planets are involved and often held hostage. Those are punished significantly harsher, and are determined on a case-by-case basis. Due to the fact Meenah did not pose a threat to neighboring planets under her rule, she does not fall under this category. Due to the rare circumstances of the crime (her coup having a death-count of zero), her lawyers were able to negotiate a plea of guilty and pacifism during her stay; should she remain so, she will be granted the right to Escorted Leave, wherein Meenah may choose to leave prison grounds so long as a guard or approved official is accompanying her and she does not partake in any unsanctioned violence or political activities.
interesting, so out the gate, no political activities are allowed? she's not allowed to advocate? is she not allowed to vote? that means of course that imprisonment is an automatic reduction of one's rights to speech. what about the prison itself, is there labor involved? what is the quality of life for inmates, the scale of housing, quality of food? those would be my specific questions. if imprisonment removes status as a citizen to do things the legal way, such as casting votes or participating in council or public speaking ect, then that is still troublesome.
again i'm not saying free meenah she did nothing wrong thats not my place to judge. just some thoughts i have rolling around. not my justice system, not my reality. apologies for taking time out of your busy schedule you would probably prefer spending on your actual constituents.
Thank you for your questions. Yes, Meenah is no longer allowed to vote. She is a felon, and overthrew the government. I'm informed this is the same law as on the human Earth. She is allowed to speak at public forums so long as the proper requests are filed in an appropriate amount of time, but she is not allowed to lobby or be a member of a political party. The prison does not require labor, and has an assortment of food available that has been approved by a board of certified dietitians and medical experts. While your questions are appreciated, I would also like to remind you that Meenah has been convicted of an extremely serious federal crime. She has been given the lightest possible sentence.
okay? that comparison doesn't change the nature of my questions. honestly? it kind of just helps my point. any legal system that can classify someone as unworthy of a vote means that it is a system that is motivated to label dissent as criminal. also that "lightest possible sentence" is interesting. i am happy to hear the quality of life in prisons is higher than on most earths, or at least, most iterations of the US. but this is where i pump the breaks. i'm not from that reality, i'm not running it, mine has plenty of problems itself. i'd just really consider that whole felony concept. it has gone pretty shit in a lot of places. anyways if i abduct meenah to my reality to hang out you can't get mad. 💙💙💙
… I most certainly can get mad at that. Unfortunately, the crime she committed was overthrowing the government; an extremely political crime in nature. Due to that fact, and that fact largely, she is unable to vote, lobby, or participate in a political party. While I do acknowledge your point of dissent being regarded as a criminal action, the nature of Meenah’s specific crime should be highlighted. There are other ways to dissent—she also chose not to make any major policy changes, and instead cost Earth-C billions in taxpayer dollars. As a whole, I agree with your overarching point; I do not agree that all felons should be banned from voting. However, due to the nature of Meenah’s crime being specifically politically motivated, she is unable to vote.
