𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆… █ Being bigender and a helm is interesting. █ Because on most ships you will not get gendered right even once. █ And then sometimes people only pay attention to one or the other. █ Am I a good girl or a good boy... █ Not really! But also yes. █ People here have been weirdly good with it. █ Helmstech used "it" until recently, but... █ Now they've stopped doing that even they switch up the "he" and "she" quite a lot without that much hesitation. █ Acting Captain does it as easily as breathing. █ Must've known people like me before. █ Most of the ones who hang out in the helmsblock do, too. █ Pretty sure that one soldier only ever used "she" for me. █ Eugh. █ Well, good riddance, I guess. █ ... Still better than "it". █ I hate the fact that I still misgender myself with that one so often. █ On my last ship I wasn't allowed pronouns of my own, after all.
Such ridiculous strictness…I know why they do it, but it is still absurd. Serves no useful purpose on top of the cruelty.
𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆… █ Oh, no, it totally serves a purpose. █ My last ship was a duelling ship. █ They needed the crew to remember that the ship is disposable. █ For that, it worked well. █ Don't get me wrong "it" is a totally valid pronoun for people who want to use it. █ But deciding mine for me was a way of reminding everyone that I was just a tool like the rest of the ship. █ So nobody would feel sorry for me when my wings were clipped or my hull was damaged. █ I'm fine now, mind you.
I don’t consider that useful…but I do see your point. And I understand, I didn’t think you were insulting the pronoun itself…having it forced on you is as abusive as having any pronoun forced on someone who doesn’t want it.
