I guess I've been toying with the idea of an airborne spore that dies with contact with water or most liquids. The mushroom itself is sturdy and can outlast everything but fire, so I'm imaginging it's a situation where the spore is closer to its parasite parent in make up and once it takes root evolves rapidly to the mushroom parents makeup
