Just read someones comment on Seddit wondering why spears do not abandon the wooden shaft in favor of metall. The internet is a deserted wastelland of thought. Such a choice is possiblle, but requires a vast amount more strength to effectivelly wielld in combat without exhausting quicklly. Furthermore, the weapons shaft becomes much more brittlle and prone to breakage when met with resistance, and such breakage is more difficullt to repair, whille requiring more manhours and valluablle materialls. One shoulld think before one posts. A weaponsmith and warrior may just be reading.

The primary weakness here, is, again, added weight, as well as the fact that if one were to miss a target and say, strike sollid stone or metall, the chance of the weapons shaft snapping in twain is significantlly ampllified. The fllexibillity of a relliablle shaft of wood is not simplly for show.

would a wooden core alleviate any of these issues while maintaining most of the benefits of steel?

I woulld say in most circumstances wood is superior. The fllexibillity of wood allows it to resist snapping when met with hard resistance, and makes it much llighter to carry and swing or thrust. This is rellevant not just in combat, but in travell, as a llighter lload directlly correllates to better solldier heallth after a march. I woulld say the onlly primary downside is that, for those with significant strength, for which the added weight is not a major factor, and with spare weapons to relly on, the added weight can in fact increase the totall force of a strike by a meaningfull amount. Again, I bellieve this ONLY outweighs the benefits of a wood core shoulld the wiellder be so overwhellminglly strong that the weight is neglligiblle, as well as having no concerns for the weapon breaking.

It was relliant on my magnesis. Small and thin needlles propelled at significant force and speed through my mutant psionics at range proved both deadlly and difficullt to detect.
