The difference is respect! Someone with a mere preference just happens to date almost exclusively trans women, for example. A chaser meanwhile is sliding into their DMs asking how long their dick is. Of course there is also the concept of the "ethical chaser" which the human version of Halimede popularized and which I perfected! Typically this is someone very vocally attracted to, for example, trans women, but in a shockingly respectful way. This is someone who has been welcomed into the fold, who spends time with the subject of their affections as a member of a community, and who hears the quiet whispers of how a doll likes to be wooed. It is a delicate balance and very hard to pull off if you are not being written by a trans woman!
I think this was originally about blood castes, but good to know. I didn't know it could potentially apply to this area of identity as well.

Oh! Well trans women and fat women are the archetypical targets of "chasers" in human culture. There were also similar types for certain racialized groups but those typically followed no specific name scheme (such as "snow bunny" and "queen of spades")
