Currently thinking about my distain for gift giving. Or rather, the way I seem to view it as a challenge or competition. Dave picked me up some little trinket at the store the other day, a cat charm, and the scorn of it being cutesy and undermining my serious and un-childlike demeanor bothered me to the point I spent the past few days getting him a gift that could be seen as equally if not twice as much scornful as well as more expensive and heartfelt so he knows I put in more effort than him, while still acting like I did not. Imagine my surprise when he seems genuinely happy about it and then hangs it up in his room. At first my mind told me he was attempting to insult me, but I realize there have been no counter attacks yet. I think I need to reevaluate how I view these things.
