In my experience, in most timelines, humans can eat a significant number of Alternian foods. Although it’s worth noting that, in many timelines, their foods are more protein-heavy. I can’t speak for the one you’re in specifically, though. Also for some reason there are timelines where trolls can’t have onions, or so I’ve heard.
