So, you see how absolutely fucking moronic it is to announce your intent to commit them, right? I ask because there is a fascinating distinction between being evil and being embarrassingly eager to be *perceived* as evil, and you appear to have sprinted headlong past the former in pursuit of the latter. “I'm going to commit various war crimes!!!” is not the declaration of some terrible, calculating monster. It is what a thirteen-year-old writes on the front of a notebook after discovering that the Geneva Conventions have a Wikipedia page. Marvelous. In the course of announcing your imminent atrocities, you have also helpfully informed everyone that the only thing presently preventing your preferred offense is the temporary absence of a particular individual. Darling, I have done things which have caused entire rooms to regard me with the expression ordinarily reserved for discovering something wet beneath one's pillow. I am hardly going to clutch my pearls at the concept of moral depravity. What offends me is the amateurism. Do not insist upon cultivating the persona of a dreadful little criminal mastermind unless you intend to demonstrate some familiarity with the “mastermind” portion. Evil is not improved by loudly exclaiming the spoilers to your own plan. At present, you are less “war criminal” and more “person whose future prosecution would require approximately three screenshots.” Actually, no. Forgive me. I have skipped rather enthusiastically over the more immediate problem. Do you know what a war crime is? Not what you have gathered from memes. Not “a crime which is very bad.” Not “violence, but with extra seasoning.” Not “something sufficiently evil that people write GENEVA CONVENTION beneath it in capital letters.” A war crime is a serious violation of the laws applicable during an armed conflict. There is, rather importantly, an **armed conflict** involved, and the conduct must possess a sufficient connection to that conflict. It need not even be a war between nations, before you seize upon that technicality. Civil wars and other non-international armed conflicts can produce war crimes just as readily. The operative concept here is not “extremely naughty behavior.” It is conduct prohibited by the laws of armed conflict. Are you murdering protected persons in connection with one? Torturing detainees? Deliberately attacking civilians? Pillaging? Taking hostages? Committing some other prohibited act because an armed conflict has furnished the context in which you are doing it? No? Then you cannot simply wake up, decide you would like to do something especially vile to Roxy, and promote an ordinary criminal offense into a war crime because the phrase sounds more impressive. It is almost adorable how badly you want the vocabulary without understanding the subject. And that, really, is the problem with this entire performance. You want very badly to be “evil.” Fine. Be unpleasant. Be cruel. Be theatrical. Develop a personality beyond spraying blood-colored glitter over every bad impulse you have and calling yourself a monster. But do stop dressing your own self-destruction up as some grand act of villainy. Hurting yourself does not make you frightening. Announcing that you intend to hurt other people does not make you calculating. Misusing legal terminology does not make you dangerous. It makes you loud. There is a considerable difference. [ ]
