I do not know why we are all digging holes, but I cannot say it is not an interesting topic. On the topic, did you know that the deepest hole ever dug on Earth was 12,262 metres (40,230 ft) deep? That is not even halfway through the Earth's continental crust at its thickest. This hole, known as the Kola Superdeep Borehole was a scientific effort made to study the Earth's crust in terms of chemical and mineral composition, as well as several other previously understudied aspects.
