#GothNight is today! I've 8een so excited to show you all the 8eautiful outfit Porrim made for me. I could 8arely hold myself 8ack from just snapping a picture days 8efore and revealing it then and there. Thankfully, I saved the moment. This look is inspired 8y the ever so fashiona8le gotha8illy su8style, a style I've always 8een incredi8ly enamored with and a music genre I've da88led in occasionally and found myself quite enjoying even if it's not my main preference of music. 8ut w8it, you say. Aranea, I find myself with an alarming lack of knowledge a8out this.... what ever could 8e it's deal? What even IS gotha8illy? To which I say. Oh, my dear reader, allow me to shine a light and guide you through the ever so dark world of the gotha8illy su8style! :::;D The Champs first coined the term "gotha8illy" in 1970 as a means to descri8e the way they mixed the som8er, jazz-like tunes of rocka8illy and the dark arrangements of gothic rock in their music. The term never really gained much attention, only starting to 8ecome really known in the mid-1990's when "Skully Records" released a series of international gotha8illy al8ums. Lead singer and guitarist of Ghoultown, Count Lyle commented a8out the lack of a gotha8illy scene prior to the companies al8um releases stating in an interview with Valerie Thorpe, "no rum8les, no grum8les and no midnight grease monkey masquerades that we've ever played". He even discussed how interested he was in the music 8eing produced 8y 8ands that performed under the la8el 8ecause of thier unique sound. It is 8ecause of it's small community that the su8genre often gets confused with or c8tegorically merged with it's musical sister genre, Psycho8illy 8ut the two sounds do differ slightly. Where Psycho8illy focuses on the fast and aggressive push to fight that its influences from the punk rock scene offer, Gotha8illy focuses on the slow, moody melodies of its gothic rock parent. Now, you're pro8a8ly wondering a8out what exactly it means to DRESS gotha8illy, well, calm down! I am getting there, just 8e patient! Geez.... 8ecause of it's heavy influences from the classic rock and roll Rocka8illy genre, gotha8illy (alternatively referred to as pinup goth) fashion can 8e easily descri8ed as a mix 8etween the retro look of the 1950's or the country look of cow8oys and the dark leather and lace of gothic fashion. Think Elvyis Presly donning all 8lack and lace or Elvira in cow8oy 8oots and starched jeans. Pencil skirts, stripes and polkadots, 8olo ties, corsets, leather jackets, and ranchers 8oots are a few staples of the style, all recolored to 8lack, of course. The hair is often quaffed into pompadours, curled quavers, 8ettie Page 8angs, the page8oy, and other popular hairstyles of the era. It's really all a8out imitating the vintage, campy energies of pin-up girls, cow8oys, and greaser culture that those retro eras 8rought into the world whilst adding a dark, vampiric flare.
