It's funny, being assigned a mytho+lo+gical title by a co+smic video+ game o+f unkno+wn o+rigin. I wo+n't pretend I was always the best team player. I spent so+ much o+f the three sweeps that my friends and I spent in that game rejecting this assignment, bo+th as a Maid and Of Space. I didn't want to+ be a servant. I didn't want to+ be a mo+ther. What a sick jo+ke, I always tho+ught, that this thing tried to+ tell me that my ultimate destiny was to+ be the universe's dutiful mo+mmy. I'd have spit in the face o+f who+ever created this damn game if I co+uld. I still might. Pto+o+ey. But in a ro+undabo+ut way, it gave me a deeper appreciatio+n o+f maids. It's chic no+w to+ asso+ciate the Tro+ll French maid with sex, but little is do+ne to+ ackno+wledge the hard, suppo+rt-co+lumn breaking wo+rk these wo+men were do+ing to+ maintain the hives o+f rich highblo+o+ds. Beneath tho+se frilly skirts and cute apro+ns is a wo+man who+ to+iled fo+r absurdly lo+ng ho+urs with little sleep, little pay, and little reco+gnitio+n. My blo+o+dpumper breaks fo+r them. I realized, perhaps to+o+ late, that I co+uldn't just say "fuck yo+u" to+ the universe and leave it at that. It wo+uld mean that the sacrifices o+f all o+f tho+se maids befo+re me were in vain.
