The Saw franchise and The Dark Crystal franchise are two completely seperate works of art. Jim Henson and Frank Oz were visionaries of their time when they made it. It would've been much longer had they had enough run time, expanding the lore and background of their world. Luckily it got expanded with the Age of Resistance show, which in my opinion was actually really fucking good. There's other novels and comic books, and even a documentary making it. I find it to be an incredibly interesting deep dive into the franchise, where as Saw has mostly leans into the visual media and is all Right There rather than really diving into a book or comic to get more about the world.
I’M ABOUT TEN MINUTES IN NOW, AND I GOTTA SAY, THIS IS SO UGLY. IN A GOOD WAY??? IF SUCH A THING IS POSSIBLE. THESE CHARACTERS ARE REALLY FUCKING UGLY. IT’S GIVING ME A STRANGE FEELING IN MY CHITINOUS WINDPIPE.

IT’S GOOD, SERIOUSLY, I MEANT THAT. NOT A LOT OF MOVIES COMMIT TO THE BIT THIS FULLY ANYMORE. JOHN HAS A POINT ABOUT PRACTICAL EFFECTS BEING BETTER.
Oh he's right about that, the older the movies are the more practical their effects. I prefer the older ones because of it. Like sure, there's some decent CGI but like. Nothing beats the result of practical effects.
Of course, there was SOME CGI used in older ones, but most of the time it was not used.
