It is a dumb moral panic situation. If you kill a killer this is a net positive, especially in matters of self defense. Oh no! This man was going to put a bullet in my skull or stab me to death let me nonlethally subdue him while he's trying to kill me. No. Kill or be killed. As for soldier or mercenary work: it's war and conflict. No one has the moral higher ground.
