it's actually a hUman social category! it refers to women who either exclUsively pUrsUe other women or jUst anyone bUt men, with a bit of wiggle room for how an individUal might feel aboUt nonbinary sUitors. such social categories based on the preferred gender of partners are historically important, as hUman reprodUction is pUrely heterosexUal, i.e. they have two mostly-mUtUally-exclUsive sets of gametes that *mUst* combine in order to create offspring. these gametes are cUltUrally tied to binary gender, and many hUman societies have discriminated against people for daring to have sexUal relations with someone exhibiting the same gametes. of coUrse, with anything anthropological, this philosophy gets a bit messy when it makes contact with reality. gender eqUality, transgenderism, intersexUality, all these ideas poke some very wide holes in the concept of heterosexUal reqUirements for romance. so, er, yes. lesbian. woman who is primarily or exclusively attracted to women. ^~^;
