Alright I figure someone here will be honest and forthwith about it. Is there something about calling someone a “goon” suddenly? I suppose it is a funny sounding word but I can’t imagine what’s so funny about calling someone it.

i believe the word's gone through a semantic change to mean someone who.. "satisfies themselves" an unhealthy amount.. or something like that

Clarification. Are you inquiring about calling someone a "goon" or a "gooner"? The two seemingly similar words have wildly different explanations.

Gooner? Never heard it called that!

We were literally callin' 'em goons and they couldn't stop snickering.

It is but oh no Dame it means something so much worse now!

It's complicated. As a verb, it means the above. As a noun, it still means a sort of brutish henchperson. However, people with juvenile sense of humor often struggle to make a distinction. Sort of like using the word "balls" in any context at all.

Okay well that's stupid.

I suppose that makes sense. Still what a terrible evolution for the word!
