Really depends, sometimes it's shipped to you, sometimes you hunt it down, sometimes its code someone in the group stumbles upon and compiles, really the reasons are take and pick. Though I never played the group I was with had to scope out options and found their offices through a stupid series of hunts through other game dev studios, found the exact amount of copies needed.
