~~~~~~~~ A fragment of a song I enjoy, translated into Modern Western Alternian for your convenience. For once, the song I hum concerns neither myself nor my interests. You are most welcome. 'Heave ho, Glashtyn go Tug the ferry to and fro Heave ho, you must go Down to the river below Gain adventure, give a little grief (To and fro we haul away) Dark cool waters; our toil and relief (To and fro we haul away) Send your smiling shadow down (Haul away, haul away) To call the dance in Glashtyn Town (Glashtyn, haul away)' ((#lyricposting))
~~~~~~~~ Snatches of a very old song I had in my head tonight, translated to modern Alternian: 'Flowers never talk They never want, they never need In the cradle gilded They are left to rot yet never bleed Eyes of silver; mirror, mirror Thread on wood and steel Keep what can be kept And heave to see which one will kneel I've been told to wait But why should there be silence? Dawning pretty laces Weaving capes of gold And framing muffled faces I will be different I can't be puppeted' ((#lyricposting))

~~~~~~~~ I heard some pirates singing a certain song. They really should have known better; naming me, especially! I ate well. 'A creature, who lost a leg, is snickering this way: "The young lady over there, let's play!" Violet string tied to its collar cannot possibly be used in place of its lost leg. The carp streamers are showing their bellies, inside which heaps of skulls are buried. Three, two, one, and hold your breath. Five, six, seven, and raise your hands up high. A collar tied to a cliff tree, hanging and swinging, let's all join up together, everyone together! Hey, hey, shall ...Read more
~~~~~~~~ [voraciousTreasure has uploaded a photo!] ((It is a photo of a small cylinder made of carved mother-of-pearl, a slit down the length of it. Flat segements of bone connected by tiny hooks spill from the gap in a ladder-like formation, ancient Alternian lettering carved into each one.)) I have spent the night so far restoring a scroll-song. It dates from around thirty seven sweeps pre-Condescension; the bone plating is in surprisingly good condition, with the inscription still clear under the fossilised silt. The translated inscription on the casing declares the song's title as 'Rowboats', and the...Read more

~~~~~~~~ This song is still in my head, so I thought I'd share the full lyrics. The melody matches the push and pull of the currents here in the depths. ~~~~~~~~ Hush, child, the darkness will rise from the deep And carry you down into sleep Child, the darkness will rise from the deep And carry you down into sleep Guileless one, I'll shape your belief And you'll always know that your lover's a thief And you won't understand the cause of your grief But you'll always follow the voices beneath (Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty only to me) Guileless one, your spirit wil...Read more
~~~~~~~~ I've had an old song in my head for several nights now. I don't mind it. ~~~~~~~~ Hush, child, the darkness will rise from the deep And carry you down into sleep Child, the darkness will rise from the deep And carry you down into sleep Guileless one, I'll shape your belief And you'll always know that your lover's a thief And you won't understand the cause of your grief But you'll always follow the voices beneath (Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty only to me) Guileless one, your spirit will hate them The flower who married my dear one, the traitor And you w...Read more
