perfect. so there's two twins: vergil and dante. they are both children of dark night sparda, who is a demon, and eva, who is a human woman. living in redgrave city, sparda taught his sons their combat skills. on the 8th birthday, eva gave them half of an amulet, making it seem like a family heirloom. shortly after, sparda would pass away from an illness. dante and vergil never knew that their father was a demon, or that he was one of the most powerful demons of his time until much later on in the franchise i believe. the result of their father's passing made them much more easier targets for ambush, as in "oh you're the descendant of this really powerful demon, we must kill you now haha." eva, being the girlboss she is, protected her only son in the house at the time (dante) by keeping him hidden from the raid and sacrificed herself. both twins grew up separately since the raid. dante would be resentful of sparda's legacy, leading him to become a very prominent demon hunter on commission. vergil, on the other hand, managed to activate yamato's powers at a young age and fended off demons attacking him when he was not home during that raid. vergil ran away under belief that he was abandoned by his mother. he vowed to never be vulnerable again, leading him to seek the highest power under any circumstances.
