Tell me one completely ordinary thing your character refuses to throw away. I would like to determine whether this is sentimentality, pathology, foreshadowing, or merely poor housekeeping.

Then the stains are not memorials to them. They are memorials to you. How intriguing.
Did you keep them because you believed someone had lost something important, or because you liked the idea that the ocean had delivered them specifically to you?

Materials. Spare cardboard, scrap metal. Could come in handy.

It just added to my costume, honestly.
That is either admirable preparedness or the early stages of becoming a particularly industrious crow. Which piece has been waiting the longest to become useful?
Nothing is ever quite that random. Not for people like us. You found them. You chose to keep them. You folded them into your presentation of yourself. That is already enough to make the act meaningful, whether you intended it to be or not. I would not dismiss it so flagrantly.

I'm not actually sure. I don't really track the chronology, just the inventory. But I have had at least two situations where I have saved a rare and supposedly unneeded cable and had to use it later on.
