I did that /after/ killing 8ec Noir. The sweeps that passed were endless training and practice regimens, and the remaining pawns that still stood were wiped away until none existed from either side. My friends are dead. When I realized after that the session was doomed, in mercy, I took them. It was effortless in comparison. There is no heroics here, no fun. The elder god awoke in silence. Not the silence of a quiet room, nor the silence between heartbeats. This was the silence before sound had ever been imagined. Nebulae unfurled like bruises across the dark. The newborn god drifted through the cosmos, ancient despite being only moments old, and watched creation blossom around it. For a time, it was pleased. Then it found the world. A tiny sphere of stone and water circling an insignificant star. Curious, it peered closer. It saw cities. It saw wars. It saw creatures clawing over one another for scraps of land they would someday rot beneath. It saw children born only to inherit suffering. It saw forests burned, oceans poisoned, and monuments raised to greed by beings who would not live long enough to remember why they built them. The god watched lovers swear eternal devotion before betrayal hollowed their promises. It watched kings slaughter thousands for names that would be forgotten. It watched people gaze at the stars and call themselves important. Disgust stirred within it. The oceans of the world trembled. The god leaned closer. Closer still. Humanity looked like mold spreading across a forgotten fruit. Their lives flashed by so quickly that from its perspective they appeared as flickering sparks, each convinced they were permanent. The elder god searched for wisdom. It found arrogance. It searched for beauty. It found consumption. It searched for purpose. It found creatures desperately inventing one. The stars around it dimmed as its revulsion grew. "These are the heirs of creation?" it wondered. Its voice rolled through the vacuum, and entire constellations shattered. The world continued spinning, unaware. The god stared for a long time. Then, slowly, its expression changed. Not to anger. Not to hatred. Something colder. Disappointment. The kind reserved for a masterpiece left to decay. Without another word, the elder god turned away from the world and drifted deeper into the void. Behind it, galaxies followed in its wake. Ahead of it, endless darkness waited. And for the first time since its birth, the universe felt afraid. Because the god had not destroyed the world. It had merely decided that it was not worth saving.
