Did you know a8out the Kola Superdeep 8orehole? It is the deepest hole on the planet earth, spanning over 40, 230 feet deep! (Or 12, 262 meters.) It is actually a piece of a grander design at play, you know. On earth, the nations known as the United States and the Soviet Union were fiercely competitive as rival government superpowers. One of the most recogniza8le ways that this rivalry was made manifest was in the Space Race, with 8oth governments attempting to expand their operations outside of their planet's atmosphere the fastest and most technologically efficient. 8ut at around the same time as that, 8ack on terra firma, there was another contest 8rewing. The United States and the Soviet Union were trying to plunder the secrets of the earth as well as the stars, and once again, the Soviets had a much firmer lead. The Kola Superdeep 8orehole project was dug in the Murmank O8last in Russia. They collected a great deal of soil samples from it, 8ut even at such an impressive depth, it was nowhere even close to penetrating the earth's crust!
