I have just seen the theme for the next #Gothnight. It concerns a fashion style that I have been wearing for several hundred sweeps. So, with that in mind, here are some things to keep in mind, crossposted from my reply to the announcement (with a few things added). Remember that there are consequences to angering a faerie. A few words of warning and caution, as well as advice. Heed this. Lolita Fashion is not a 'sexy' fashion. Whilst it does have a gothic substyle, said substyle is not sexualised. Lolita fashion is a modest fashion that is often misrepresented. If you want to wear Lolita fashion to this event, DO NOT wear a skimpy outfit and call it Lolita. It is not. Lolita has specific guidelines that MUST be followed for an outfit to be considered Lolita. The outfit shown in the announcement photo is a very normal and good Lolita coordinate. Note the skirt length, the coverage, and the fact that it is not a 'maid dress'. 1: You MUST wear a skirt that falls to the knee. A little above is fine. ؛ଓelow to mid-calf is fine. HALFWAY UP YOUR THIGH IS NOT LOLITA. I mean it. Do NOT wear a short skirt and pretend it counts as Lolita. It does not. 2: You MUST wear a petticoat or crinoline to ensure the skirt is the correct silhouette. This is non negotiable. It is the silhouette that forms a fundamental part of a Lolita outfit. Said silhouette is a 'cupcake'/'bell' shape OR an A-line, like a triangle. The petticoat is underwear and should not be displayed as part of the dress. 3: No breasts/spheres out. Again, this is not a sexualised fashion. Some other things: Your dress MUST have straps at the very least, preferably with a blouse underneath. Lolita is a detailed, intricate fashion. Cheap fabrics will make your outfit look bad. Leather and latex are extremely hard to pull off in this fashion. If you must wear that, use it as an accessory, rather than for the dress. Try to wear a matching headpiece to balance out the volume of the skirt. There is a substyle called 'ero-Lolita'. This is a very difficult substyle to pull off unless you are extremely experienced in the fashion. I am only noting its existence to avoid someone acting like I do not know of it. I do. It is a bad idea for anyone trying Lolita as a beginner. Please do not attempt this substyle. You do not have to wear black for a Lolita outfit to fit in the 'gothic' substyle. Obviously, you do not have to wear Lolita fashion to this event, but if you do want to wear it, you MUST follow the basic rules to have your outfit considered as Lolita.
