Attention, esteemed guests of the Adorabloodthirsty Cinemassacre Club. This Friday's #watchparty theme is one that you would not believe came from the mind of our very own Supreme Leader @carbolicGalvanologist after the smashing success that was #GnomeWeek. #ABCC are proud to present: #HistoricalRomanceFriday. This start of the weekend comes packed to the brim with the type of romance you don't see any more in this day and age- I am talking, of course, of being capable of murder (and other crimes) for your loved one. The three movies that we will be watching, in order of appearance will be: GMT - under the charge of @creaticGoeticist Pride and Prejudice. A story of romance, social expectations, family complications, and the apparently Herculean task of admitting that one might have been wrong about someone. It is a film about manners, misunderstandings, and the dangerous consequences of allowing one's first impressions to acquire too much authority. There are also estates, ballroom dances, and enough carefully repressed feelings to make one wonder how anyone in this society ever manages to breathe. EST - hosted by yours truly Troy, a suitably enormous tale of heroes, warriors, kings, romance, betrayal, and the catastrophic consequences of allowing several powerful men to become emotionally invested in the same woman. There are swords. There are sandals. There is honor, allegedly. There are also magnificent speeches, spectacular battles, and the sort of interpersonal drama that makes one wonder whether everyone involved might benefit from simply sitting down and talking. And the piece de resistance this week... PST - resting on the gentle paws of our dear @arsenicCatnaps Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. An elegant martial-arts drama about love, duty, freedom, restraint, and people who apparently consider gravity to be more of a suggestion than a physical law. It is beautiful, melancholy, and remarkably graceful, right up until someone decides to fight on top of a roof. Beneath all the swordplay and impossible acrobatics, however, is a rather poignant examination of people struggling between the lives they are expected to lead and the lives they actually desire. Each #abcc-filmleader will make a post of their own when showtime is approaching, but it should be 3 hours between each movie. Bring your finest garb, a handkerchief or two, and the willingness to have your concept of what romance is shattered in three different historical periods of Earth as we know it. Keep in mind that Fridays, as per usual, are optional #substance nights. Feel free to imbibe in your favorite poisons and potions and herbs, but remember to keep the conversation as civil as possible during the movies. And, as a subsequent reminder, our little club has a suggestion box. I encourage you to click the link below and speak your mind. #GetIn
