One aspect of the myth of Jesus Christ in human culture that I have always found to 8e especially intriguing was that of the 8etrayal of Judas Iscariot. It is a component of the story that is completely unique to mankind, as opposed to the more o8vious parallels drawn 8etween certain troll legends and it. To 8e fated to not only 8etray your 8eloved teacher, 8ut for that 8etrayal to 8e integral to lift him up and make his legend all the more important. It's of no wonder that many depictions of Judas show him wracked with grief and shame at his actions, despite the futility that would accompany any kind of resistance. He is a controversial and theologically contested figure, of course, 8ut there is a poetry to 8eing 8etrayed with a kiss. It's of no wonder that he is such a prevalent topic in Christian artwork. He's all too human. #easter #religion
