MOOOOOOOO MOOOOThe woman burst through the undergrowth, branches clawing at her jacket and hair. Her breath came in ragged gasps as she stumbled between the trees, glancing over her shoulder every few seconds. Something was following her. She never saw it clearly. Sometimes she heard wet footsteps behind her. Sometimes she caught movement between the trunks. Once, she thought she saw a pale shape keeping pace with her in the darkness. The forest seemed endless. "Help!" she screamed. Only the wind answered. A snapping branch sounded close behind her. Too close. She ran harder, tears blurring her vision. Then the sounds stopped. No footsteps. No movement. No noise at all. The silence was somehow worse. She slowed, listening. A hand touched her shoulder. The woods fell quiet again.
