#rankmaidsdailytropediscussion day 1: forced proximity forced proximity is when characters are stuck spending a lot of time together in intimate or isolated spaces which pushes them to grow closer or clash more quickly this is a super classic and is used in lots of different ways in my opinion its only as good as how the author can use it as a supplementary driving force for the narrative and the goal of sexual tension between the characters involved however the proximity could be literal (physical) or in a more social sense (politcal) and both provide a different flavor of will they wont they this trope can be used for a long term slowburn or pwp focused on the physical aspect sometimes pushing into the stuckage trope social is usually a tacked on addition to a more fleshed out physical proximity trope for example arranged quadrants some examples include being locked in a cell together, being forced to share a body, a shared hiding place, trapped at a party together, being forced to team up for a mission or for work, the barracks of the #eridanwar, the human movie saw where the two human boys are trapped in the bathroom together do you find forced proximity to be an engaging trope? rate it 1-10! 0v0 whats your favorite flavor of forced proximity? READ ALL ABOUT IT — [ You wanted discussion so here's my ramble ... Forced proximity when done right can really elevate certain situations. The examples you shared are dobby. Like the hiding place, I was actually forced to share one a couple sweeps ago with ... someone. I think a sense of fear elevates the thrill of being stuck so close. You can feel their pusher thump in their cage, feel their panting breaths against your skin and have to do nothing but sit there. More metaphorical uses of forced proximity are fantastic too, I'm a pretty big fan of a group of unlikely people who are forced to work together in order to overcome somethin'. Finding bonds they realistically would've never ever formed in the circumstances outside of the forced proximity. It creates a wonderful dynamic. Especially if the people are foils to one another's personalities. I prefer it done as a hiding spot. 9/10. ]

Perhaps it may be a touch Cronenbergian of me, but I quite like when the forced proximity is an immutable characteristic or predicament. Minds that never unlink from telepathic tether no matter how loud one might shriek or moan inside their head. Bodies that fuse together in silken bondage wraps under the onerous intensity of their fucking. An immortal union of sky eclipsing predator and entirely unprepared morsel like prey. A sweatily reclusive sex driven fiend with an impossible to satiate libido and ero-espoused humankind-centric curiosity…and literally me.
