It came about out of need rather than preference. Repiton as a planet is, admittedly, wasting away. Our mother grubs have long died out, and most of the know-how for raising wrigglers (and, frankly, for much of any old technique in general) is long lost to the fall of the Renaissance. We don't even have the 'grub' stage any longer. We don't emerge from our test tubes until we are fully formed wrigglers.
